Basketball Recap: Layton Christian Academy Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Ava Smith and Penelope Arroyo

Layton Christian Academy lost against North Summit back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Layton Christian Academy Eagles took a 59-45 bruising from the North Summit Braves. While the Eagles didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Braves 13-8 in the first quarter.

Despite the defeat, Layton Christian Academy had strong showings from Penelope Arroyo, who went 7 for 15 on her way to 18 points, and Ava Smith, who posted two points in addition to 16 rebounds and six assists. Smith has been hot recently, having posted 12 or more boards the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Gracie Maloney-Holland, who put up six points.

North Summit's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Hartlynn Richins led the charge by dropping a triple-double on 16 points, ten rebounds, and ten assists. With that strong performance, Richins is now averaging an impressive 8.1 assists per game. Another player making a difference was Hayzlyn Murdock, who shot 4-for-4 from downtown and dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 boards.

Layton Christian Academy now has a losing record at 4-5. As for North Summit, their win bumped their record up to 6-1.

Layton Christian Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 64-41 loss against Brighton on the 16th. As for North Summit, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 49-13 victory against Union on the 13th.
