Baseball Recap: Phoenix Christian Beats Veritas Prep for Their Third Straight Victory

Phoenix Christian had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over the Veritas Prep Falcons on Friday. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 16 matches by six runs or more this season.

Manny Morell looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Xavier Gutierrez, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Nate Burton was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.

Phoenix Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .559. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Veritas Prep only posted an OBP of .400.

The win (which was Phoenix Christian's third in a row) raised their record to 24-4. As for Veritas Prep, with the defeat, they broke their six-game winning streak and moved their record to 13-8.

Phoenix Christian has already played their next game (against Tombstone), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Veritas Prep does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
