Basketball Recap: James Monroe's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

After a string of four wins, James Monroe's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a hard 53-38 fall against the WestSide Renegades. The match marked the Mavericks' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Despite the defeat, James Monroe saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kadyn Hines posted 19 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals. Hines also set a new season-high mark in blocks with three. Another player making a difference was Ryan Mann, who earned eight points along with six boards and three steals.

WestSide's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kadien Vance, who put up 11 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. What's more, Vance also racked up three blocks, the most he's had since back in December of 2023. Austin Bishop was another key player, putting up 19 points.

James Monroe's loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 8-2. As for WestSide, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-3.

James Monroe wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 66-31 victory against Summers County on the 28th. WestSide has also already played their next matchup, a 60-58 win against Bluefield on the 27th.
