Basketball Game Preview: Lakeland Christian Vikings vs. Cornerstone Charter Academy Ducks

The Lakeland Christian Vikings will take on the Cornerstone Charter Academy Ducks at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lakeland Christian's defense has only allowed 26.6 points per game this season, so Cornerstone Charter Academy's offense will have their work cut out for them.

Lakeland Christian heads in on the heels of a playoff game on Saturday. They took a 37-33 hit to the loss column at the hands of Foundation Academy. The matchup marked the Vikings' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Sarah Bennett, who posted seven points. That's the most points she has posted since back in December of 2024. Collette Zavada was another key player, putting up ten points.

Even though they lost, Lakeland Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in nine consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Cornerstone Charter Academy came up short against Foundation Academy on Thursday and fell 44-33.

Despite the loss, Cornerstone Charter Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Lalelei Cox earned 13 points. Cox continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jayden Janis, who scored eight points.

Lakeland Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 19-5. As for Cornerstone Charter Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 12-10.

Lakeland Christian strolled past Cornerstone Charter Academy in their previous meeting back in January of 2023 by a score of 54-39. Will Lakeland Christian repeat their success, or does Cornerstone Charter Academy have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
