Softball Recap: Milaca Comes Up Short

Milaca was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 17th straight defeat dating back to last season. They fell 9-5 to the Braham Bombers. While the Wolves didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Bombers 4-0 in the first period.

Brynne Mehrwerth spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and five unearned) runs on 11 hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Bri Hasz stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Annabelle Gothman, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Milaca's loss dropped their record down to 0-9. As for Braham, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-2.

Looking ahead, Milaca will welcome Upsala at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Braham, they will head out to take on Mille Lacs co-op [Isle/Onamia] at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
