Croatan waltzed into their contest on Friday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They enjoyed a cozy 40-25 victory over the White Oak Vikings. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 116th, while the Vikings are ranked 374th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Croatan got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Neely McMannen out in front who posted nine points and four steals. McMannen is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last nine games she's played. Julianne Winters also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Several Vikings players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Mylena Clark, who scored six points along with nine boards and five blocks. Those five blocks gave Clark a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Zamarah Rawls, who earned ten blocks, eight rebounds, and four steals.

Croatan's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-1. As for White Oak, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-10.

The future could be bright for both Croatan and White Oak: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. Croatan will look to extend Richlands' eight-game losing streak when the meet at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, White Oak will try to hand Dixon their seventh-straight loss when the two meet at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
