Baseball Recap: Downey Find Success

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Downey ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out the Bellflower Buccaneers 5-3. Five seems to be a good number for the Vikings as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Ozzy De La Cruz looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Downey is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 3-4 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Samuel Mojica, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

The victory made it two in a row for Downey and bumps their season record up to 11-4. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.5 runs across that stretch. As for Bellflower, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season.

Downey will have a chance to go back-to-back against Bellflower: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:15 p.m. on Friday.
