Basketball Recap: Emma Elliott Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat James Island

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Summerville, West Ashley was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They secured a 52-47 W over the James Island Trojans. This was a revenge game for the Wildcats: when they faced off against the Trojans back in January, they had to take a 51-42 loss.

West Ashley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Emma Elliott led the charge by putting up 20 points in addition to six steals and five rebounds. Elliott is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Destiny Ladson, who posted 16 points.

West Ashley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

When it comes to explaining why James Island lost, don't look at Madisyn Smith. Despite the final result, she had 12 points and six steals. Alexa Lehr was another key player, posting five points along with seven boards and three steals.

West Ashley now has a winning record of 10-9. As for James Island, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-11.

West Ashley will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Fort Dorchester at 7:00 p.m. As for James Island, they will venture away from home to face off against Summerville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Summerville knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three matches -- so hopefully James Island likes a good challenge.
