Basketball Recap: Solomon Johnson-Paris' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Downey over Central Catholic

Downey was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. The match between them and the Central Catholic Raiders didn't end well, with the Downey Knights falling 55-36. If the Knights were looking for revenge after losing 63-46 to them when the teams met, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Downey lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Solomon Johnson-Paris, who posted six points and seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Trey Richards, who put up five points.

Central Catholic was led to victory by Manjot Mann and Jordan Magana. Mann went 5 of 10 on his way to 14 points and five rebounds, while Magana went 5 of 12 on his way to 11 points and three steals. The dominant performance also gave Magana a new career-high in blocks (two). Brendan Carter was another key player, putting up six points and eight rebounds.

Downey's defeat dropped their record down to 2-12. As for Central Catholic, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-9.

Downey wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 46-43 loss against River Islands on the 7th. As for Central Catholic, they will host East Union at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Central Catholic is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.9 points per game this season.
