Softball Recap: Nelson County Governors vs. Altavista Colonels
Nelson County fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Altavista on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Altavista Colonels by a score of 3-2. Nelson County was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Altavista apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April.
For Altavista's part, Bella Radford made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched eight innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off seven hits. Radford was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with an RBI.
Radford wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Alissa Gonzalez, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Nelson County dropped their record down to 3-17 with that defeat, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Altavista, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-10.
