Basketball Recap: Clarion Area Sets Scoring Season-High Against Karns City

Clarion Area fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Karns City on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 70-69 to the Karns City Gremlins. One positive for the Bobcats, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Clarion Area's loss came despite strong showings from Mason Burford and Dylan Smail. Burford posted 22 points and six rebounds, while Smail put up 16 points and five boards. Smail continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Derek Smail, who scored eight points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Clarion Area smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Clarion Area's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 13-5. As for Karns City, their victory bumped their record up to 7-9.

Clarion Area will square off against Cranberry Area at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Clarion Area is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.9 points per game this season. As for Karns City, they will challenge North Clarion at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Karns City is facing North Clarion at the right time seeing as North Clarion is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
