Baseball Recap: Taft Triumphs

While Taft's win against California City wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Wildcats narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Ravens 6-5. The win continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Ravens: they've now won three in a row.

The team relied heavily on Ben Nuncio, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and two runs. Taft is undefeated when Nuncio posts two or more runs, but 0-3 otherwise. Mason Montes was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

The victory got Taft back to even at 3-3. As for California City, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Taft will take on Bakersfield in a tournament on Wednesday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Drillers have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season. As for California City, they will be taking part in a tournament against North at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
