Preview: Winnfield Tigers vs. Lakeview Gators
The Winnfield Tigers will head out on the road to take on the Lakeview Gators at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Tuesday, Winnfield humbled Jonesboro-Hodge with a 76-40 victory. Given Winnfield's advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 82nd, while Jonesboro-Hodge is ranked 317th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Decavian Duncan continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 37 points along with five assists and five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylon Jackson, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, Lakeview had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25.5 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They blew past Mansfield, posting a 75-42 victory at home.
Winnfield is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season. As for Lakeview, they pushed their record up to 22-5 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home.
Winnfield lost to Lakeview on the road by a decisive 71-56 margin in their previous meeting back in January. Can Winnfield avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
