Soccer Game Preview: Maize South vs. Derby

The Maize South Mavericks will head out on the road to square off against the Derby Panthers on Monday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Maize South comes in on five and Derby on six.

Maize South is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Kansas' top teams: Kapaun Mt. Carmel, who was ranked 17th at the time (Maize South was ranked fifth). The Mavericks beat the Crusaders by a goal, winning 3-2.

Meanwhile, Derby kept a clean sheet against North on Thursday. They walked away with a 2-0 victory over the RedHawks. Derby's defense has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a goal in their last four matchups.

Derby pushed their record up to 15-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up zero goals over those four games. As for Maize South, their win bumped their record up to 12-2-1.

Everything went Maize South's way against Derby when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Maize South made off with a 7-1 victory. Do the Mavericks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
