Softball Game Preview: Oak Park Eagles vs. Rio Mesa Spartans

Oak Park hasn't had much luck against Rio Mesa recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. Oak Park will take on Rio Mesa at 1:00 p.m.

Oak Park is headed into Saturday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Thursday. They lost 9-2 to Royal.

Kirthi Paramasivan made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Zoe Vanderbok, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Rio Mesa won against Santa Barbara on Wednesday with 13 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. Everything went Rio Mesa's way against Pacifica as Rio Mesa made off with a 13-2 victory. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by seven runs or more this season.

Analia Lopez made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and not a single walk). Lopez was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.

In other batting news, Jazlynn Gonzalez was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Jaslene Rios was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three doubles, and one RBI.

Rio Mesa kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive contests.

Rio Mesa's record is now 9-2. As for Oak Park, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.

Oak Park couldn't quite finish off Rio Mesa in their previous matchup back in February and fell 3-1. Can Oak Park avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
