Baseball Recap: Indio Takes a Loss

On Wednesday, the Indio Rajahs came up short against the Arroyo Valley Hawks and fell 8-5. The Rajahs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Jose Rodriguez put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Indio is 4-2 when Rodriguez posts two or more runs, but 0-8 otherwise.

In other batting news, Julian Mandujano was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sergio Navarro, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Indio's loss dropped their record down to 4-10. As for Arroyo Valley, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-3.

Looking ahead, Indio will be playing at home against University Prep at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. University Prep is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season. As for Arroyo Valley, they are taking a road trip to take on Indian Springs at 3:45 p.m. on Friday.
