Softball Recap: Charlottesville Black Knights vs. Monticello Mustangs

Charlottesville had lost 19 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 1-13 to make it 20. They fell 4-0 to the Monticello Mustangs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-0 on Thursday.

As for Monticello, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 13-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.2 runs over those games.

For Monticello's part, Delaney Via was excellent, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases Via has posted since back in March of 2024.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Charlottesville will challenge Waynesboro at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Monticello, they will venture away from home to challenge Cumberland at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Dukes have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.67 runs per game on average), something the Mustangs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
