Wake Forest has gone 8-2 against Millbrook recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 6:00 p.m. Wake Forest is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
If Wake Forest beats Millbrook with eight runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Cougars put the hurt on Rolesville with a sharp 8-1 victory last Thursday. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by six runs or more this season.
Jil Livengood spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Wake Forest let Mia Spahlinger and Teagan Campbell run wild. Spahlinger scored a run while going 1-for-2, while Campbell scored two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. What's more, Spahlinger posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. Abbey Lauer was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Millbrook). They blew past Knightdale 19-4 last Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Knights: they've now won seven in a row.
Nicole Drew was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Drew was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Callie Kaplan was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run and five RBI. Another player making a difference was Brynn Herman, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Millbrook was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .643. They are 7-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Wake Forest pushed their record up to 10-0 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Millbrook, their victory bumped their record up to 7-5.
Wake Forest took their win against Millbrook in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 15-0 score. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
