Basketball Recap: East Ridge Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

East Ridge and Apopka squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but East Ridge had to settle for second. They were outmatched by the Apopka Blue Darters and fell 74-41. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 565th, while the Blue Darters are ranked 40th).

East Ridge's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Isayah Smith, who went 6 for 14 on his way to 18 points, and Bryce Olson, who went 5 of 12 en route to 11 points and seven rebounds. Smith's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Corman, who posted six boards.

Jude Angervil continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Apopka, going 11 for 20 to rack up 24 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. The dominant performance gave Angervil a new career-high in points. Matthew Murray also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steal of the season.

East Ridge's defeat dropped their record down to 9-18. As for Apopka, their record is now 18-7.

East Ridge does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Apopka, they have already played their next game, a 63-47 victory against Ocoee on the 7th.
