Basketball Recap: South Effingham Comes Up Short

If South Effingham was riding high fresh off their 80-57 takedown of Southeast Bulloch last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The South Effingham Mustangs were dealt an 86-49 defeat at the hands of the Statesboro Blue Devils on Tuesday. The Mustangs were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-17.

South Effingham's loss came despite strong showings from Hayden Lloyd and Landyn White. Lloyd posted four points, while White had five points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lawton Bowen, who earned four points.

Even though they lost, South Effingham smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in ten consecutive contests.

Statesboro's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Devin Mikell, who went 5 of 12 on his way to 14 points along with six rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Ja'Caiden Cone, who went 6 of 14 on his way to 14 points and three steals.

South Effingham dropped their record down to 5-10 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Statesboro, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 13-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Effingham will welcome Glynn Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Statesboro, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Effingham County at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.
