Basketball Recap: Claiborne Academy Snags 13th Win in Last 14 Games

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Claiborne Academy had no problem doing just that on Friday. They came out on top against the Mt. Salus Christian Eagles by a score of 66-56. 66 seems to be a good number for the Rebels as the team scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.

Claiborne Academy was led to victory by Dylan Buckner and Maddox Gaston. Buckner went 9 of 15 to rack up 19 points along with five assists and five rebounds, while Gaston went 8 for 12 on his way to 20 points in addition to three steals and three blocks. The dominant performance gave Gaston a new career-high in blocks. Another player making a difference was Cade Smith, who went 5 for 11 en route to 10 points and four steals.

Claiborne Academy is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.8 points over those games. As for Mt. Salus Christian, they now have a losing record at 8-9.
