Football Game Preview: Alexandria Valley Cubs vs. Ashville Bulldogs

The Alexandria Valley Cubs will venture away from home to challenge the Ashville Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Ashville will be up against a hot Alexandria squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Valley Cubs strolled past Hokes Bluff with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 39-21.

Alexandria found their leader in sophomore Monqre Morris Jr (Mj), who picked up 131 receiving yards and a pair of scores, and also rushed for 73 yards and one touchdown.

Meanwhile, Ashville made easy work of White Plains on Friday and carried off a 38-16 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Bulldogs have posted against the Wildcats since August 28, 2015.

Alexandria better keep an eye on Jb Potter. He was instrumental in Ashville's win, rushing for 116 yards and three TDs, while also throwing for 290 yards and three touchdowns. Potter is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in each of the last three games he's played. 101 of Potter's passing yards were hauled in by Nate Huckbay, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Alexandria's victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Ashville, their win bumped their record up to an identical 5-1.

Everything came up roses for Alexandria against Ashville in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 48-7 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Valley Cubs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
