Baseball Recap: Mathis Takes a Loss

Mathis had taken Odem down for three straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Tuesday. The Pirates fell just short of the Owls by a score of 5-4. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Owls this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-1 back in March.

Brandon Reed made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

Mathis' loss was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 6-14. As for Odem, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Mathis will face off against rival Aransas Pass at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Odem is set to challenge their familiar foe George West at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
