Basketball Recap: Garinger Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Khente Carthran and Aaron Lawler

Garinger was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 60-55 heartbreaker at the hands of the Grace Academy Lions.

Aaron Lawler and Khente Carthran certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Lawler went 8 for 15 on his way to 23 points and eight rebounds, while Carthran dropped a double-double on ten points and 18 boards. The game was Lawler's third in a row with at least ten points. Jameer Nealy was another key player, putting up nine points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Garinger smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive board total in three consecutive contests.

Grace Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tim Burris led the charge by posting 21 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Buslovich, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds.

Garinger's defeat dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Grace Academy, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 9-1.

Garinger wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 65-46 loss against York Prep on the 30th. As for Grace Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 87-69 victory against West Mecklenburg on the 28th.
