Basketball Recap: Luke Garrison's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Reagan over Johnson

Reagan has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 48-46 heartbreaker at the hands of the Johnson Jaguars. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Rattlers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 43-39 on January 3rd.

Reagan's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Luke Garrison, who went 5 for 9 en route to 12 points. Another player making a difference was Chase Hill, who posted eight points.

It was another big night for Daryl Banks, who went 8 of 14 on his way to 17 points for Johnson. Banks' evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Marc Anthony was another key player, going 5 for 12 en route to 12 points.

Reagan's loss dropped their record down to 19-9. As for Johnson, the win (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 23-8.

Reagan and Johnson should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. Reagan (ranked 90th) will meet LEE (ranked 724th) at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Reagan is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.7 points per game this season. Meanwhile, Johnson will take on Madison at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday up 422 places (50 vs. 472).
