Preview: First Colonial Patriots vs. Salem Sundevils
First Colonial is 2-8 against Salem since November of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The First Colonial Patriots will be home for the holidays to greet the Salem Sundevils at 5:30 p.m. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: First Colonial has struggled recently with five losses in a row, while Salem will arrive with three straight wins.
Last Friday, First Colonial came up short against Ocean Lakes and fell 58-51.
Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Salem beat Landstown 38-33 on Friday. Given Salem's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 68th, while Landstown is ranked 280th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
First Colonial bumped their record down to 1-6 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 29.3 points per game. As for Salem, their victory bumped their record up to 5-1.
