Softball Recap: Chiawana's Loss Ends Six-Game Winning Streak at Home

Chiawana dropped their record down to 13-5 on Friday, which also ended the team's six-game streak of wins at home. They came up short against the Richland Bombers, falling 17-5. The Riverhawks were not able to make up for their loss to the Bombers from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Chase Wirt made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

As for Richland, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 19-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games.

On Richland's side, Ali Evans made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Evans has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Richland got a massive performance out of Sophia Sams, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and four RBI. That's the most RBI Sams has posted over her last 11 matchups. Jordan Brannon was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Richland beat Chiawana by a score of 9-0 later that day.
