Bernie and Advance squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Bernie had to settle for second. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Advance Hornets. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Mules of the 3-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September.
While Bernie ultimately came up short, they really made Advance work, particularly in the first set. The match finished with set scores of 28-26, 25-5, 24-26, 25-20.
Despite the defeat, Bernie saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Sophia Vessell had 15 digs and 18 assists. Vessell has been hot , having posted 12 or more assists the last five times she's played.
Brogan Hawkins was a one-man wrecking crew for Advance as she had 26 digs and two aces.
The loss snapped Bernie's winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 19-10-3 record. As for Advance, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 22-11-2 record this season.
