Softball Recap: Central Square Gets the Win

The home team had come away the winner the last five times Central Square and East Syracuse-Minoa had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Redhawks came out on top in a nail-biter against the Spartans on Friday, sneaking past 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Redhawks have posted since April 14th.

Caytlin Redeye spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Abigail Fazzino, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Hannah Waldron was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Central Square kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as East Syracuse-Minoa only managed five hits.

The win got Central Square back to even at 6-6. As for East Syracuse-Minoa, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season.

Central Square didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 5-4 victory against Jamesville-DeWitt on the 19th. As for East Syracuse-Minoa, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 14-1 win against Oneida on the 17th.
