Softball Game Preview: Malden Green Wave vs. Naylor Eagles

The Malden Green Wave will take on the Naylor Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Malden has three straight victories, Naylor has ten straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Malden lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Woodland, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Thursday's match. The Green Wave were the clear victors by a 19-9 margin over the Cardinals on Thursday. The Green Wave's hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Carsyn Cohen was a standout: she scored three runs and stole four bases while getting on base in four of her six plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Mariah Loya, who scored a run and stole five bases while getting on base in four of her six plate appearances.

Malden always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .708. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Naylor came up short against Portageville on Thursday, falling 19-3.

Malden's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Naylor, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.
