Softball Game Preview: Malad Dragons vs. Parma Panthers

The Malad Dragons will square off against the Parma Panthers at 11:15 a.m. on Friday. Malad is coming into the contest hot, having won their last eight games.

Malad is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Kellogg 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Dragons have posted since March 20th.

Sarah Toone was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Toone wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Stella Merja, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Parma got the win against North Fremont on Thursday by a conclusive 8-2. Considering the Panthers have won 18 matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Malad's win bumped their record up to 22-4. As for Parma, their victory bumped their record up to 22-3.

Everything went Malad's way against Parma in their previous matchup back in May of 2025, as Malad made off with a 12-5 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Dragons since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
