Cicero Prep Academy falls despite big games from Madison Washburn and Maggie Hooppaw

Recap: Cicero Prep Academy Centurions vs. The Gregory School Hawks

The Cicero Prep Academy Centurions's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They took a 29-23 hit to the loss column at the hands of The Gregory School. Cicero Prep Academy was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hawks apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.

Cicero Prep Academy's loss came despite strong showings from Maggie Hooppaw and Madison Washburn. Hooppaw scored six points along with ten rebounds and four steals, while Washburn scored 11 points along with five rebounds. Hooppaw hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games.

The Gregory School's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lauren Horowitz, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Horowitz has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Rose Pisetsky, who scored 11 points along with four steals.

Cicero Prep Academy has traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last 11 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season. As for The Gregory School, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-13.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cicero Prep Academy will face off against the Lightning at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Lincoln Prep will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak. As for The Gregory School, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on January 26th. Desert Christian's defense has only allowed 24.1 points per game this season, so the Hawks' offense will have their work cut out for them.
