Softball Recap: Knoch Beats Greensburg Salem for Their 15th Straight Win

Knoch extended their winning streak to 15 on Wednesday, bumping their season record up to 16-1 in the process. They blew past the Greensburg Salem Golden Lions 11-1. Considering the Knights have won 14 matches by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Kaila Purcell spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, McKenna Brailey and Lindsey Wise did most of the damage at the plate: Brailey got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double, while Wise went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three runs gave Brailey a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lizzie Danik, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Knoch always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.

As for Greensburg Salem, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-5. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for they, who until this game were averaging 2.64 runs allowed.

On Greensburg Salem's side, they saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alle Scarpa, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Looking ahead, Knoch will be playing in front of their home fans against Burrell at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Knights 1, the Bucs 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Greensburg Salem, they are taking a road trip to square off against Derry at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
