Basketball Recap: Bri'asia Rowe's Big Game Can't Quite Lead West Charlotte over Mallard Creek

West Charlotte lost against Mallard Creek back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The match between the West Charlotte Lions and the Mallard Creek Mavericks didn't end well, with the West Charlotte Lions falling 47-30. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 109th, while the Mavericks are ranked ninth).

West Charlotte lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Bri'Asia Rowe, who posted six points and ten boards. Kenya Grier was another key player, putting up four points along with six rebounds and four steals.

My?Asia Young was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 14 points and ten boards for Mallard Creek. Young has been hot recently, having posted ten or more rebounds the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Jazmeen Stone, who put up 13 points.

West Charlotte's defeat dropped their record down to 11-5. As for Mallard Creek, they pushed their record up to 16-2 with the victory, which was their 19th straight at home dating back to last season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. West Charlotte will challenge West Mecklenburg at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. West Charlotte is facing West Mecklenburg at the right time seeing as West Mecklenburg is stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Mallard Creek, they will face off against Hopewell at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mallard Creek is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61.9 points per game this season.
