Recap: Nucla Mustangs vs. Holly Wildcats
Nucla was the 8-4 winner over Holly when they last played one another back in May of 2017, but their luck changed this time around. The Nucla Mustangs fell just short of the Holly Wildcats by a score of 7-5 on Friday.
Steele Arnold was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
On Holly's side, Devin Eaton made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits. Eaton was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a triple, a run, and an RBI.
In other batting news, Nick Vazquez was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. Jesse Pizarro was another key contributor, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Nucla's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Holly, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
Nucla will square off against Varsity Opponent at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Nucla is facing Varsity Opponent at the right time seeing as Varsity Opponent is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Holly, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Stratton at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Holly has given up an average of 7.5 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
