Softball Recap: Atchison Extends Winning Streak to Three

Atchison had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They blew past the Highland Park Scots 12-1. The Phoenix have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Scots, too.

Kirrah Duncan made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing five bases while going 2-for-3. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more stolen bases the last three times she's played.

In other batting news, Atchison got a big performance out of Jadyn Boldridge, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Kenzie Weedon-Jacobs, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

Atchison was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .381. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .364 or higher in three consecutive matchups.

Atchison's win bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Highland Park, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Coming up, Atchison will square off against Washington at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Highland Park will be paying especially close attention to the Phoenix's contest: after the Phoenix faces off against Troy, they'll take on Highland Park again at 4:00 p.m. on May 6.
