Baseball Preview: Burlingame Panthers vs. Los Gatos Wildcats
The Burlingame Panthers will head out on the road to challenge the Los Gatos Wildcats at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Burlingame is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on King's Academy with a sharp 18-7 victory on Friday. The Panthers not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since February 27th (when they won 11-0).
Meanwhile, Los Gatos came tearing into Friday's game with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.1 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Mustangs 12-1. Considering the Wildcats have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Ethan Williams looked comfortable as he pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Will Temple was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Brayden Smith also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Los Gatos was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Homestead only posted a batting average of .045.
Los Gatos pushed their record up to 15-3 with the win, which was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.1 runs over those games. As for Burlingame, the win snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 8-10 record.
Burlingame couldn't quite finish off Los Gatos when the teams last played back in March of 2015 and fell 3-1. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
