Softball Game Preview: Washington Huskies vs. Dougherty Valley Wildcats

The Washington Huskies will square off against the Dougherty Valley Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Washington has given up an average of 7.2 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

Washington is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 16 runs on Thursday, they were much more limited against Mt. Eden on Friday. They came up short against the Monarchs, falling 12-2.

Washington saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Olivia Machuca, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That double marked the first that Machuca hit this season. Another was Ariel Guerra, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Dougherty Valley, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They never let Mt. Diablo get on the board and left with a 19-0 victory on Thursday. The match marked the Wildcats' most dominant win of the season so far.

Marissa Lee looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (three).

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Laura Osborn, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February of 2024. Kaitlyn Lohe was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.

Dougherty Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Dougherty Valley's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Washington, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.
