Baseball Recap: Dyer County Triumphs

Dyer County won the last time they faced St. George and things went their way on Thursday too. The Dyer County Choctaws walked away with a 6-3 victory over the St. George's Gryphons. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Choctaws.

Easton Ozment spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on nine hits and racked up six Ks. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March of 2024.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Talon Messer, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI and two doubles. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. David Headtke was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Messer wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Dyer County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive matches.

Dyer County now has a winning record of 5-4-1. As for St. George's, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 3-4.

Dyer County has already played their next contest (against Collierville), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for St. George's, they will take on Tipton-Rosemark Academy at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
