Basketball Recap: Archbishop Spalding Comes Up Short in High-Profile Game with Mcdonogh

On Tuesday, Archbishop Spalding faced McDonogh in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Archbishop Spalding Cavaliers fell to the McDonogh Eagles 42-38. The Cavaliers lost against the Eagles in their previous head to head back in January, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 72-35 score last time.

Archbishop Spalding lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Vanesa Flood, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds. Whitley Watkins was another key player, putting up six points along with eight boards and three blocks.

This is the second loss in a row for Archbishop Spalding and nudges their season record down to 0-2. As for McDonogh, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Archbishop Spalding didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 62-59 defeat against Mercy on the 6th. As for McDonogh, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 49-40 victory against Georgetown Visitation Prep on the 7th.
