Baseball Game Preview: Pomperaug Panthers vs. Brookfield Bobcats

Pomperaug is 0-10 against Brookfield since April of 2018 but things could change on Wednesday. The Panthers will look to defend their home field against the Bobcats at 4:15 p.m. One thing working in Pomperaug's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last three contests.

Pomperaug is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Harding a 27-0 shutout on Monday. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Jake Nichols looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Pomperaug let Noah Pane and Andrew Brocksmith run wild. Pane went a perfect 4-for-4 with five runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI, while Brocksmith went 4-for-6 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those five runs gave Pane a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Dominic Creaco, who went 1-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.

Pomperaug kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Brookfield beat Bunnell 5-0 on Monday. The victory continues a trend for the Bobcats in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won four in a row.

Brookfield now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Pomperaug, their win bumped their record up to 8-5.
