Football Game Preview: Canyon Lake Hawks vs. Davenport Wolves

The Canyon Lake Hawks will venture away from home to take on the Davenport Wolves at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Canyon Lake will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up seven points on October 10th, then bounced right back against Uvalde last Friday. The Hawks blew past the Coyotes/Lobos (for girls) 47-7. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Hawks just coasted through the last quarter.

Canyon Lake's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Chris Brown, who rushed for 95 yards and three TDs on only 12 carries. Those three rushing touchdowns gave Brown a new career-high. Another signal caller making a difference was Jace Wheeler, who threw for 203 yards and three touchdowns on only 14 passes.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Canyon Lake was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 257 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Davenport strolled into their game on Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They were the clear victors by a 40-20 margin over Uvalde. Given the Wolves' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 149th, while the Coyotes/Lobos (for girls) are ranked 786th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Canyon Lake better keep an eye on Barrett Fallon. He was instrumental in Davenport's win, rushing for 197 yards and three scores while picking up 8.6 yards per carry, and also catching one TD. Fallon is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in each of the last 11 games he's played dating back to last season.

Canyon Lake's record is now 6-2. As for Davenport, their record now sits at 9-0.

Canyon Lake lost to Davenport on the road by a decisive 61-42 margin in their previous matchup back in November of 2024. Thankfully for the Hawks, Daniel Soukup ii (who rushed for 151 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 9.4 yards per carry, and also threw for 337 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 73.9% of his passes) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
