Softball Game Preview: Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg vs. Cumberland Pirates

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg will face off against the Cumberland Pirates at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Nokomis a 7-0 shutout. Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg hasn't had any issues with Nokomis recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Samantha Hayes made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Zaida Wascher was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Kendra Hayes, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Cumberland lost 9-1 to Okaw Valley on Monday.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg pushed their record up to 21-5 with the victory, which was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.1 runs over those games. As for Cumberland, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-16 record this season.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg beat Cumberland 7-4 when the teams last played back in May of 2023. Will Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg repeat their success, or does Cumberland has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
