Basketball Recap: South Guilford HomeSchool Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact South Guilford HomeSchool can now relate to. They lost 59-34 to the Southeastern HomeSchool Cardinals on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 366th, while the Cardinals are ranked 142nd).

Blake Batts was his usual excellent self, going 12-for-15 to rack up 34 points and three steals for Southeastern HomeSchool. What's more, Batts also posted a 67% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's achieved since back in December of 2023. Max Brutus was another key player, putting up six points and five rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for South Guilford HomeSchool and nudges their season record down to 24-16. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 21-9 Greater Cabarrus S (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 78.5% over those games). As for Southeastern HomeSchool, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 27-4.

South Guilford HomeSchool didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 46-42 loss against Frederick W on the 5th. As for Southeastern HomeSchool, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 52-50 defeat against Greater Cabarrus S on the 1st.
