Baseball Recap: Jamestown Comes Up Short

Jamestown extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 18 on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 0-14 in the process. They lost 17-4 to the Cochranton Cardinals. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cardinals this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 back in April.

Jamestown saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Danner Babcock, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI. Duncan Mayer also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

As for Cochranton, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-8. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Cochranton's side, the team relied heavily on Bradyen Burnette, who went 4-for-5 with four runs, two stolen bases, and four RBI. Burnette is becoming a predictor of the Cardinals' success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 4-2 (and 1-6 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Coleton Mattocks, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with five stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.

Jamestown wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 16-14 defeat against Youngsville on the 8th. As for Cochranton, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 15-2 loss against Saegertown on the 8th.
