Recap: Wicksburg Panthers vs. Ariton Purple Cats
It was a good run, but The Wicksburg Panthers unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They fell 49-42 to Ariton. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Wicksburg's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Mason Burkhardt, who rushed for 84 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 157 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 passes. Carter Meyers made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Ian Senn continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Ariton, rushing for 270 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 10.8 yards per carry, and also throwing for 227 yards and five touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Lawson Leger, who picked up 117 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Wicksburg's defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Ariton, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 5-4 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wicksburg will take on Long at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Long is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road. As for Ariton, they will be playing at home against Samson at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
