Basketball Recap: Erionna Henry's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Dunedin over St. Petersburg Catholic

After flying high against Northeast last Wednesday, Dunedin came back down to earth. The Dunedin Falcons fell just short of the St. Petersburg Catholic Barons by a score of 47-44 on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Falcons have suffered since January 24, 2024.

Dunedin lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Erionna Henry, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds. Henry is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Trinity Clincy was another key player, putting up 13 points and seven steals.

Even though they lost, Dunedin smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive contests.

Leading St. Petersburg Catholic to victory were Naomi Denmark and Kinsley Spoor. Denmark went 9 of 14 en route to 20 points and seven boards, while Spoor posted four points in addition to nine blocks and five assists. Spoor is becoming a predictor of St. Petersburg Catholic's success: when she posts at least five blocks the team is 10-1 (and 5-7 when she doesn't). Another player making a difference was Vivian Meshanko, who had eight points.

Dunedin has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season. As for St. Petersburg Catholic, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a massive bump to their 15-8 record this season.

Dunedin wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 55-51 victory against East Lake on the 23rd. St. Petersburg Catholic has also already played their next matchup, a 63-10 win against Cristo Rey Tampa on the 23rd.
