Ohio Cardinal recap Oct. 3, 2012
West Holmes extended the longest winning streak in Ohio Cardinal this week by beating Orrville, 41-0. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Knights.
Wooster moved up to 182 from 264 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Generals climbed the ranks as a result of a 54-24 win over Clear Fork.
Ashland's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Tyson Vogel threw for 263 and one touchdown and Nick Barker had 88 yards receiving. On the ground Jacob Allton chipped in 51 yards. Allton helped Ashland's passing attack out by catching six balls for 72 yards.
Ashland's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Arrows feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Vogel has thrown for 1978 yards and 15 touchdowns this season, while Barker has 47 catches for 935 yards. Vogel also leads the league in rushing with 286 yards.
Entering into this week's contest against the Red Riders, Vogel is short just 22 passing yards to break 2,000 on the season.
Two of the top units in Ohio Cardinal will face off this week when Ashland takes on Orrville. Scott Valentine's team's offense has recorded 194 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while Doug Davault's team has permitted only 189 on the year.
Barker of the the Arrows' is a few catches away from breaking 1,000 yards for the season. He needs only 65 receiving yards in this week's game against the Red Riders to get there.
West Holmes took down Orrville 41-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
