Preview: Mandeville Skippers vs. Covington Lions

Mandeville has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge the Covington Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Mandeville has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 273 points over their last four matchups.

In what's become a running theme this season, Mandeville gave their fans yet another huge win on Tuesday. They blew past Hammond 72-28 at home. Given Mandeville's advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked tenth, while Hammond is ranked 118th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mandeville relied on the efforts of Hannah Benoit, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds, and Alanna Benoit, who scored 25 points along with eight rebounds and seven steals. Benoit hasn't dropped below 21 points for four straight games. Jordyn Carter was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with six rebounds and three steals.

Meanwhile, Covington's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight loss. They were outmatched by Northshore on the road and fell 60-29.

Mandeville's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 26-5. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.9 points per game. As for Covington, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-16.

Everything came up roses for Mandeville against Covington in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 as the team secured a 72-34 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mandeville since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
