Preview: Eastern Warriors vs. Peebles Indians
Eastern has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Peebles Indians at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Eastern will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings (they are ranked 453rd, while Peebles is ranked 132nd).
Last Monday, Eastern ended up a good deal behind Lynchburg-Clay and lost 54-37.
Meanwhile, Peebles waltzed into their game on Saturday with five straight wins but they left with six. They walked away with a 46-37 win over Southeastern.
Payton Johnson was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 27 points and 17 rebounds. That makes it seven consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Peebles' points. Angel Gray was another key contributor, scoring five points along with three steals.
Eastern has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season. As for Peebles, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-2.
Eastern beat Peebles 58-50 in their previous meeting back in January of 2023. Will Eastern repeat their success, or does Peebles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
